Harvestmen (Opiliones)

Harvestmen are arachnids but not spiders and there are several main differences. Harvestman have a fused body, they don't produce silk or create webs and they don't have fangs or produce venom. There are almost 7000 known speces of Harvestman but only around 30 of them are found in the UK.

Harvestmen can be found in a variety of habitats but are commonly found on trees, in leaf litter and on buildings all year round. Many harvestmen are nocturnal, spending the daytime hidden and becoming active at night.

Throughtout the last year or so, I've been seeking out and documenting harvestmen from our local area in Yorkshire, England. Scroll down to see a few of the highlights and check out the species page for a full list the finds.
